PLEASE NOTE: 2020-2021 School year extracurricular activities will be announced as they become available. The following is a list of 2019-2020 extracurricular activities.


Instrumental Band

Band is open to scholars in 4th-8th Grades. No prior instrument experience is required. We have 2 levels of band, beginning and intermediate/advanced that meet after school twice a week and an occasional Saturday rehearsal. Students must provide their own instrument and there is a reasonable one time fee that helps cover the cost of this afters school program. Parent volunteers must sign up for shifts to help during the practices. During school year 2019-2020 band meets Mondays and Thursdays from 3:15 to 5. Basketball

The FCCS boys basketball team is coached by PE instructor Mr. Bickel. Girls are coached by parent volunteers. The teams compete against other middle school teams in Frederick County. Practices are held at the YMCA and in the FCCS gym. brett.bickel@fcps.org.

Elementary Chorus - Currently Active

Participating in a chorus group has many benefits, such as self-expression, self-confidence, and the camaraderie of group participation. It also helps to build self-discipline and, of course, develops and enhances musical skills. This group of 3rd through 5th graders meets Tuesdays and Thursdays before school and is led by Mr. Pastena. Stephen.Pastena@fcps.org .

Destination Imagination - Currently Active

The DI mission is to engage participants in project-based challenges that are designed to build confidence and develop extraordinary creativity, critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills. Students from kindergarten through university level participate in the Destination Imagination Challenge Program. There is a limit of 7 children per team led by at least one volunteer team manager. Guitar Club

Guitar Club is a teacher led group that meets once a week and is open to novice and intermediate guitar enthusiasts. Logic Stage scholars are welcome. Bring your own guitar. This club meets Wednesdays from 3:15 to 4pm. Contact Mr. Kenny at Colin.Kenny@fcps.org.

MathCounts

MathCounts is a national math program that provides students in grades 6-8 the opportunity to compete in live, in-person contests against and alongside their peers. The Competition Series has 4 levels of competition—school, chapter, state and national. Each level of competition is comprised of 4 rounds—Sprint, Target, Team and Countdown Round. Altogether the rounds are designed to take about 3 hours to complete. Meets Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:15.

National Junior Honors Society

The National Junior Honor Society is an international student organization that consists of chapters in middle schools. The NJHS was founded by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, and today has chapters in the United States, other U.S. Territories, and around the world. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship. Science Olympiad

Science Olympiad is an American team competition in which students compete in 23 events pertaining to various scientific disciplines, including earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Over 7,800 middle school and high school teams from 50 U.S. states compete each year. Led by Ms. Hurley, third grade science teacher. Meetings are scheduled as needed. christina.hurley@fcps.org

Student Government Association (SGA)

The Student Government Association consists of class officers for each grade and an executive council that oversees each class. The positions available in each class are President, Vice President, and Secretary/Treasurer.. Class officers help to plan, organize, and participate in school activities, including Dances, Socials, Black History Month, National School Choice Week and a number of other activities. This hard working group meets after school on Tuesdays and is facilitated by FCCS teacher Ms. Rasband. cecily.rasband@fcps.org
