The FCCS Advocacy Committee is looking for new members!

Members will have an interest in learning more about charter schools, education best practices, and classical pedagogy, and have a desire to progress the work toward greater school choice for families and greater autonomy for charter schools in Maryland.

As you may have heard, Governor Larry Hogan recently announced an initiative to provide facilities funding for charter schools across Maryland. Governor Hogan’s recently introduced Fiscal Year 2020 budget designates $2.6 million specifically for construction projects at public charter schools, as well as $1.2 million from the Healthy School Facility Fund, created by bipartisan legislation enacted last year, specifically to fix critical heating and air conditioning issues and other necessary maintenance improvements at public charter schools. Additionally, the Public Charter School Facility Funding Act of 2019 could potentially provide our school with an additional $600,000 to boost our annual revenue of public funds.

We will be working closely with Maryland Alliance for Public Charter Schools (MAPCS) to show heavy support for this initiative. The Governor is expecting parents to show up in droves to support his budget. The Advocacy Committee needs strong voices in the coming weeks. The lobby night is scheduled for February 19 at 5:30pm-7:15pm.

Planned Advocacy committee meeting dates are February 25 at 6pm and March 18 at 7pm. Please mark your calendars.

If you have any questions or want to talk, please feel free to reach out to us!
